Embedded World 2017 – Hall 4A, Stand 110 - NUREMBERG, Germany – March 13, 2017 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficient innovations, will focus on technologies for three of the highest-profile and fastest moving sectors of the electronics industry at this year’s Embedded World exhibition with demonstrations around solutions and tools for the Internet of Things (IoT), wireless and USB Type-C power delivery / charging, as well as automotive image sensing.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – January 17, 2017 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficient innovations, has introduced a new touch/proximity sensing solution that combines industry-leading performance, cost effectiveness and convenience in a single chip. The LC717A30UJ high dynamic range capacitance-to-digital converter uses mutual capacitance to detect changes in capacitance down to femtofarad (fF) levels. Parasitic capacitance cancellation raises the detector sensitivity, while its built-in noise rejection mechanism combats the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The eight capacitance-sensing input channels make the LC717A30UJ highly optimized for use in systems where an array of switches is required. The device includes an integrated multiplexer for input channel selection, analog-to-digital converter, dual-stage amplifier that determines capacitance changes plus outputs analog amplitude values, system clock, power-on reset circuit, and all the necessary control logic to create a total solution. PHOENIX, Ariz. – Sept. 27, 2016 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficiency innovations, has announced three new devices for driving 3- phase BLDC motors via 180 degree sinusoidal waveforms. Designed for use in cooling fans of household appliances such as refrigerators, as well as games consoles and computing equipment, the LV8811, LV8813, and LV8814 have voltage ranges of 3.6 volts (V) to 16 V, 6 to 16 V, and 3.6 to 16 V respectively. These highly integrated, software-less motor drivers simplify motor control circuit design by eliminating software development time. In addition, these devices reduce acoustic noise and vibration, and enable deployment of energy efficient motor controls. They can be controlled by a single Hall sensor, reducing system costs. Motor speed can be set by either a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal or a DC voltage. Furthermore, their lead angle can easily be adjusted.

The LV8811, the LV8813, and the LV8814 incorporate over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-temperature protection functions. Also included are locked rotor protection and auto-recovery mechanisms. Soft start-up and shutdown functionality ensures that ongoing operational stability is maintained. [Continue reading →]

This 1/3-inch format, 1.2 MP imaging device has been designed to address the challenging requirements of automotive imaging as well as high-speed barcode scanning, and emerging applications like virtual reality and 3D depth sensing. The new global shutter sensor allows the camera to “freeze” fast moving scene data, and ensures effective synchronization with pulsed light sources.

The AR0135 sensor incorporates a new innovative global shutter pixel design, with 10X lower dark current and 4X higher shutter efficiency vs. previous generation products. These improvements allow the sensor to produce clear, low-noise images, in both low-light and bright scenes, and in high temperature environments. The AR1337 is a 1/3.2-inch format device with back-side illumination targeted for consumer electronics products such as smartphones and tablet computers. The AR1337 incorporates high performance SuperPD™ phase detect autofocus (PDAF) pixel technology, which delivers focus speeds of 300 ms or less - even in low lighting conditions below 25 lux. Furthermore, by utilizing its on-chip PDAF processing the AR1337 drastically simplifies integration into smartphone platforms and improves camera module integrators throughput from simplified calibration compared to other solutions in the market.

This AR1337 image sensor has an active-pixel array in a 4208 x 3120 pixel arrangement. Building off the success of the company’s proprietary advanced 1.1µm pixel technology, the AR1337 is able to deliver vibrant and realistic image quality with best in class signal-to-noise ratio. Its quantum efficiency reaches up to 82%, providing industry-leading sensitivity. The sensor architecture is designed for low noise to ensure a clean, sharp image. Capable of capturing 1080p high dynamic range (HDR) video, the AR0231AT also includes features that support Automotive Safety Integrity Level B (ASIL B).

The LFM technology (patent pending) eliminates high frequency LED flicker from traffic signs and vehicle LED lighting and allows Traffic Sign Reading algorithms to operate in all light conditions. The IoT Platform Development Kit brings together a series of performance-optimized computing and connectivity modules to facilitate quick and effective deployment of battery-free wireless sensing technology and IoT hardware in locations where power and space constraints are of particular concern. This streamlined and flexible solution takes the approach of moving much of the system’s intelligence away from where the sensors are situated, and placing it on the cloud.

Each IoT Platform Development Kit incorporates ON Semiconductor’s battery-free wireless sensor tags, which use RFMicron’s Magnus® S2 Sensor IC, and can perform temperature, moisture, pressure, or proximity sensing functions. The new PYTHON 480 image sensor shares the same pixel design and SVGA (800 x 600 pixel) resolution as the existing PYTHON 500, but is optimized for both size (with a package 85% smaller than the existing device) and power. Large 4.8 µm global shutter pixels with two available microlens offset options enable high light sensitivity in end-use cases ranging from inspection systems (where short exposure times enable the capture of moving objects without motion blur) to barcode scanning (where large depth of field and small scanning engines are needed). The new PYTHON 10K, PYTHON 12K, PYTHON 16K, and PYTHON 25K image sensors combine excellent imaging performance with high speed output architectures that meet and exceed the bandwidths available from popular industry computer interfaces such as USB 3.1, CameraLink, CoaXPress, and 10GigE. The new devices share a common high performance 4.5 µm pixel that leverages ON Semiconductor’s patented in-pixel CDS (ipCDS) technology to enable global shutter imaging with Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) in a compact pixel size. Image data is accessed through 32, 16, 8, or 4 LVDS channels, each running at 720 MHz, to enable readout speeds of up to 80 fps for the 25K device.
