PicoVNA 106 Network Analyzer from Saelig Saelig Company, Inc. has introduced the Pico Technology PicoVNA 106 Low-Cost Vector Network Analyzer - an economical USB-controlled, professional-grade 300kHz to 6GHz Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) with excellent performance, portability, and affordability. Despite its small size and low cost, its full-function, minimal-error, ‘Quad RX’ four-receiver architecture supports both 8- and 12-term calibration without the uncorrectable switching errors, delays, and unreliability of traditional three-receiver designs. The instrument supports convenient calibration methods such as ‘enhanced isolation correction’ and ‘unknown thru’.

The PicoVNA 106 has a dynamic range of up to 118dB at 10Hz and only 0.005dB RMS trace noise at its maximum bandwidth of 140kHz. It can gather all four S-parameters at just 190usec per frequency point, so a 500 point 2-port S2P Touchstone file (compatible with many test, math, view and EDA simulation tools) is captured in less than 1/10 sec. This performance compares with other full-function VNAs that are more than four times as expensive. The PicoVNA 106 is even cost-effective as a high-dynamic-range scalar network analyzer where phase measurements are not needed, or even as a single-port vector reflectometer. The product also includes bias-Ts for the convenient injection of a bias or test stimulus. The PicoVNA 106 software's two utilities address gain compression (P1dB) and AM to PM. Mercury’s precision-engineered packaging technology now compacts 4GB of double data rate third-generation synchronous dynamic random-access memory (DDR3 SDRAM) in a single 301 mm2 ruggedized package, setting the industry standard for the highest density DDR3 device. The new 4GB DDR3 high density secure memory product, available in x64 and x72 architectures, is manufactured at Mercury’s Advanced Microelectronic Center in Phoenix, Ariz.

Next-generation mission computing and sensor subsystem designs need additional DRAM capacity for simultaneous processing of numerous wideband data streams. While attempting to double or triple the number of discrete DRAM devices, system architects frequently encounter a scarcity of available space for integration of these components. Mercury’s newest memory product surmounts this space restriction by vertically integrating the equivalent of up to five DDR3 memory devices into one densely-packed, low-profile ball grid array (BGA) package less than 2.5 mm thick. Physical footprint reductions up to 59% are realized without compromising the benefits of high-capacity DDR3 memory. Furthermore, as this solution is of an optical rather than a mechanical nature, issues such as the build-up of deposits, jamming, or wear and tear are avoided. The LC717A30UJ high dynamic range capacitance-to-digital converter uses mutual capacitance to detect changes in capacitance down to femtofarad (fF) levels. Parasitic capacitance cancellation raises the detector sensitivity, while its built-in noise rejection mechanism combats the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The eight capacitance-sensing input channels make the LC717A30UJ highly optimized for use in systems where an array of switches is required. The device includes an integrated multiplexer for input channel selection, analog-to-digital converter, dual-stage amplifier that determines capacitance changes plus outputs analog amplitude values, system clock, power-on reset circuit, and all the necessary control logic to create a total solution.
